Why I Started Painting Outdoors and Why You Can Too

As an artist, I found that painting outdoors provided a new level of inspiration and creativity that I couldn’t find working with photos. That’s why I started painting outdoors (en plein air) ; You utilize your all your senses when you paint outside and immerse yourself in the experience.

Inspiration:

One of the biggest benefits of painting outdoors is its wealth of inspiration. Whether it’s the beauty of a natural setting, the energy of a bustling cityscape, or the mood of a particular time, there’s something special about painting in a natural environment that can spark creativity and imagination. That’s why I love to travel and paint on location – to find new sources of inspiration and to challenge myself creatively.

Relaxation:

Another reason why I started painting outdoors is that it’s a relaxing and therapeutic experience. Being surrounded by nature can have a calming effect, and painting outdoors is a great way to de-stress and unwind. Whether it’s the sound of the wind rustling through the trees, the smell of freshly cut grass, or the feeling of the sun on your skin, there’s something rejuvenating about being outside that can’t be replicated in my studio.

Improvement of skills

Why I started painting outdoors has also helped me improve my skills. Painting outdoors forces you to work quickly and adapt to changing light and weather conditions. It can be a challenging experience, but it’s also a great way to improve your skills and develop a sense of observation and an ability to capture the essence of a scene. By painting outdoors, I could develop my skills faster than I would have if I were only painting the same scenes from a photograph.

Sense of adventure:

Painting on location is also a fun and adventurous activity. Whether you’re exploring a new location or simply enjoying the beauty of your backyard, there’s a sense of excitement and adventure that comes with painting outside. When I paint on location I’m creating an indepth memory.

Connection to nature:

Finally, painting outdoors is a great way to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the world around us. It can also be a great way to exercise and enjoy the benefits of being outdoors. Whether hiking to a remote location, meandering the streets of a hilltop town, or simply sitting on a park bench, there’s something special about being outside and appreciating the world around us. I discovered when I started painting outside I felt more connected to my subject and breathed in the beauty of the world around me.

In conclusion, I started painting outdoors, and you can too because it provides a new level of inspiration, relaxation, skill improvement, a sense of adventure, and a connection to nature.
