This fun class is for all levels. Drawing, painting, and journaling will be demonstrated. This is a plein air workshop, we’ll be visiting different sites around the La Quinta/Palm Desert area including the Living Desert Gardens & Zoo.
Discover how to draw with flowing lines and paint with flowing colors. This class is for beginner to intermediate levels. Learn basics skills while completing multiple colorful paintings in your sketchbook. We will be painting outdoors in a shaded area for this workshop so dress accordingly. Take the fear out of figure painting as you capture skin tones and sunshine with your paintbrush. Begin with a tracing to get general shapes just right, then change the figures, hair styles, colors, and clothing to fit your own design. Discover how to mix skin tones with light and shadow in mind, and layer on mingled color to get the desired effect on the skin, in the hair, and clothing. Create a colorful flowerpot brimming with flowers as you learn to draw connecting shapes and mix and mingle paint to create layers of color and dimension. Use both “wet on dry” and “wet on wet” techniques to create dappled light and deep shadows for a dramatic lighting effect. This simplified but satisfying process will allow you to create one or more flowerpots during class. Images of European scenes will be provided, or work from a photo of your own front porch. Loosen up your watercolor practice as you draw and paint Utah scenes the Quick Sketch way. Learn to mix a palette of local colors - wonderful greens to a myriad of earth tones – and draw with organic lines, focusing on shapes and adding detail as you go.
