Explore using organic line-work and captivating color to interpret a variety of scenes

This two-day workshop focuses on translating what you see into expressive watercolor
sketches and studies. Using flowing line-work, you’ll discover how to get into the flow
as you design, capture essential shapes and movement, then layer in unexpected color
that creates depth, atmosphere, and connection to each experience. Working across a
variety of subjects, you’ll develop a natural rhythm between drawing and painting—
creating work that feels dynamic, intuitive, and personal. This workshop is great for all
levels of experience – for artists who want to capture their travel experiences and
everyday moments in minutes rather than hours.

We’ll start with watercolor warmups, brushwork techniques and drawing tips. As we
proceed we will explore a variety of subjects from simple organic shapes like flowers to
landscapes and archetecture. Note, we will be drawing with a fine point pen most of
the time – I usually use a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen Fine-liner size 0.3 in Grey, Black,
or Sepia. I’ll provide images that I’ll demonstrate from in advance and participants are welcome to use my references or their own. No preparation is needed other than making sure your paint is already in your palette and dry.
