This particular piece holds a special place in my heart. “The majestic stone cathedrals, grand ledges, and stunning canyons of southern Utah are often signature themes in my paintings. As an explorer, I seek out compelling views throughout each travel day. My heart sings when captivating light and colorful shadows come out to dance with my paintbrush.”

My artistic process involves immersing myself in the landscapes I paint, capturing the essence of the scene with quick preliminary sketches and on-location watercolor studies. Back in my studio, I translate my vision into connected graphic shapes, unexpected colors, and dramatic values. For “Dead Horse Point, Canyonlands,” I focused on the power of complementary colors – golds and violets – using my palette of transparent and sedimentary Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors.
