5 Reasons Why to Consider Painting Outdoors With a Group

As an artist who enjoys painting with friends and students en plein air, I can attest to the many benefits of creating outdoors with a group. Being in nature, surrounded by the beauty of the world, and expressing that through your art can be truly inspiring. But did you know that painting outdoors with a group can take the experience to the next level?

Here are five reasons why you should consider painting outdoors with a group.

1. Safety:

Safety is key, when in a group you are more protected.

Whether painting in a park, a village or on a hike, having friends by your side can make the experience safer and more enjoyable. When you paint in a group, you have the peace of mind that comes with having others around. This can help to reduce the risk of accidents or unexpected events.

2. Camaraderie:

The camaraderie of creating on location is a friendship building experience.

Painting with others is a great way to build friendships and create bonds. As you share the creative experience with others, you can learn from each other and offer encouragement and support. This can create a sense of community and a shared experience that will last a lifetime.

3. Learning:

You learn from each other as you share your own-point-of view.

Painting with others can be a great way to learn and grow as an artist. As you share your point of view, you can learn from the perspectives and techniques of others. Whether it’s through observing their brushwork, color choices, or design, you can gain new insights and knowledge that can help you improve your own art.

4. Real-Life Inspiration:

You see the subject in real life often with 360 degrees of choices and use all your senses to take in the scene.

When you paint outdoors, you can see the subject in real life, with 360 degrees of choices. This allows you to fully immerse yourself in the experience and be inspired by the beauty of the world around you. By painting with a group, you can also gain new perspectives and see the subject from different angles, further enhancing your creativity.

5. Group Encouragement:

You are inspired by seeing how others capture the scene, from design to colors and brushwork.

Artists are incredibly supportive of each other. They want to do their best and also see you succeed. It’s helpful to get someone else’s point-of-view if you get stuck or just need some simple advice. It’s good to be independent and positive, while encouraging others too. Everyone has their own approach and you actually learn from each other. Whether you are just starting or have been painting for years, painting with a group can help you to grow and be inspired.

There are many reasons to share the creative journey with others. The connections you make while painting on location can be uplifting and memorable. Take advantage of opportunities that come along, and you’ll create lifelong memories and friendships.

In conclusion, painting outdoors with a group can be a truly enriching experience. From safety and camaraderie to learning and inspiration, there are many reasons why you may consider joining a painting group or come paint with me on one of my travelling art tours. So, next time you have the opportunity, grab your paints and join some friends for a day of outdoor painting!
